Astoria
Astoria sits on the East River in northwestern Queens, with Astoria Park running along the water beneath the Hell Gate and RFK bridges. Steinway Street and 30th Avenue carry the shopping and restaurants, and Kaufman Astoria Studios and the Museum of the Moving Image are both here. Housing runs from prewar walk-ups and two- and three-family rowhouses to newer condos near the waterfront, with the N and W at Broadway, 30th Avenue and Astoria Boulevard.

Astoria Heights / Upper Ditmars
Astoria Heights, also called Upper Ditmars, sits north of Astoria Boulevard between the Grand Central Parkway and LaGuardia. The streets are quieter than the rest of Astoria and largely made up of one- and two-family houses on small lots. The Ditmars Boulevard terminus of the N and W is a short walk or bus ride west, with the M60 and Q49 running through the neighborhood.

Corona
Corona runs between Roosevelt Avenue and the Grand Central Parkway in central-western Queens, right up against Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The park holds the Unisphere, the Queens Museum, Citi Field and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and the Louis Armstrong House Museum sits on 107th Street. The 7 stops at 103rd Street-Corona Plaza and 111th Street, and the housing is mostly frame houses and small apartment buildings.

Ditmars - Steinway
Ditmars-Steinway covers the northern end of Astoria, ending at the Ditmars Boulevard terminus of the N and W. Steinway Street is the main commercial spine, and the Steinway & Sons piano factory has operated in the neighborhood since the 1870s. Astoria Park and its pool are a few blocks west, and the housing is largely brick rowhouses and small apartment buildings.

East Elmhurst
East Elmhurst runs from Astoria Boulevard up to Flushing Bay, directly beside LaGuardia Airport. It is almost entirely one- and two-family houses, with commercial activity concentrated on Astoria Boulevard and Ditmars Boulevard. The Grand Central Parkway runs along its northern edge and Jackson Heights sits immediately to the south.

Elmhurst
Elmhurst sits in central Queens around Broadway and Queens Boulevard, one of the busiest transit crossroads in the borough. The 7, E, F, M and R all stop here, at Elmhurst Avenue, Grand Avenue-Newtown and 82nd Street. Queens Center anchors the shopping and Elmhurst Park was built on the site of the old gas tanks. The housing is a mix of prewar apartment buildings and rowhouses.

Forest Hills
Forest Hills sits in south-central Queens and includes Forest Hills Gardens, a planned Tudor-style enclave laid out in 1909 around Station Square. Austin Street is the shopping street, and the West Side Tennis Club nearby was the home of the US Open for decades. The E, F, M, R and the LIRR all stop at Forest Hills-71st Avenue. Large prewar co-op buildings sit alongside detached houses.

Glendale
Glendale sits in southern Queens between Ridgewood and Middle Village, with Forest Park and the edge of the Ridgewood Reservoir along its northern side. Myrtle Avenue carries the shopping, and the M train stops at Fresh Pond Road. The housing is largely one- and two-family brick houses on quiet residential streets.

Hunters Point
Hunters Point occupies the southwestern corner of Queens on the East River, directly across from Midtown Manhattan. Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunter's Point South Park run along the waterfront under the Pepsi-Cola sign. The 7, E and G stop at Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue and Hunters Point Avenue, with the LIRR and NYC Ferry both here as well. High-rise condo and rental towers sit alongside converted industrial buildings.

Jackson Heights
Jackson Heights is built around garden apartment co-ops laid out in the 1910s and 1920s, many of them arranged around private interior gardens and protected as a historic district. 37th Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue carry the shopping and restaurants, and Travers Park is the neighborhood green. The 7, E, F, M and R all stop at Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights.

Long Island City
Long Island City runs along the East River at the western edge of Queens and holds MoMA PS1, the Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park. Court Square is served by the 7, E, G and M, and the NYC Ferry stops at the waterfront. The building stock ranges from new high-rise towers to converted warehouses and blocks that are still industrial.

Maspeth
Maspeth sits between Newtown Creek and Queens Boulevard in central-western Queens. Grand Avenue is the commercial street, and the neighborhood is largely one- and two-family houses on a compact street grid. There is no subway inside Maspeth itself; the Q58, Q59 and Q67 buses connect it to the 7 and the M.

Middle Village
Middle Village sits in southern Queens around Juniper Valley Park, which holds ballfields, tennis courts and a running track. Metropolitan Avenue carries the shopping and the M train ends at Metropolitan Avenue. The housing is mostly detached and semi-detached houses on quiet residential streets.

Old Astoria
Old Astoria is the oldest part of the neighborhood, running down to the East River around 12th and 14th Streets near Hallets Cove. Nineteenth-century frame and brick houses stand alongside newer waterfront development, and Astoria Park is just to the north. The N and W at Broadway are a short walk east.

Rego Park
Rego Park sits in central Queens between Queens Boulevard and the Long Island Expressway. Rego Center and Queens Center anchor the shopping, and the M and R stop at 63rd Drive-Rego Park. The housing runs from large prewar co-op buildings and postwar apartment houses to the detached homes on the Crescents.

Ridgewood
Ridgewood sits on the Brooklyn line in southwestern Queens and holds one of the largest historic districts in the city, block after block of yellow-brick rowhouses built in the 1900s and 1910s. Myrtle Avenue and Fresh Pond Road carry the shopping, and the M and L meet at Myrtle-Wyckoff.

South Astoria
South Astoria runs from Broadway down toward 36th Avenue and the Long Island City line. Kaufman Astoria Studios and the Museum of the Moving Image sit at its center. The N and W stop at 36th Avenue and the R and M at Steinway Street. The housing is largely prewar walk-ups and two-family houses.

Sunnyside Gardens is a planned community built between 1924 and 1928 across sixteen blocks north of Skillman Avenue, with rows of low brick houses arranged around shared interior courtyards. It is a designated historic district, and Sunnyside Gardens Park sits at its eastern end. The 7 stops at 46th Street-Bliss.

Woodhaven runs between Forest Park and Atlantic Avenue in southern Queens. Jamaica Avenue carries the shopping beneath the elevated J and Z, and Forest Park holds the 1903 carousel and the bandshell. The housing is largely one- and two-family homes, many of them frame houses from the 1920s.

Woodside sits between Sunnyside and Jackson Heights in western Queens. The 7 and the LIRR both stop at 61st Street-Woodside, making it one of the faster commutes in the borough. Roosevelt Avenue and 61st Street carry the shopping, and Doughboy Park sits at the center. Two-family houses, small apartment buildings and prewar co-ops make up most of the housing.
