Arverne
Arverne sits on the ocean side of the Rockaway peninsula, and much of it has been rebuilt over the past two decades through Arverne by the Sea and the surrounding developments. The boardwalk and the beach run along its southern edge, the A stops at Beach 60th and Beach 67th Streets, and the housing is largely newer attached and semi-attached homes and small condo buildings.

Belle Harbor
Belle Harbor sits on the western half of the Rockaway peninsula between the ocean and Jamaica Bay, one of the lowest-density parts of the neighborhood. Beach 129th Street carries the local shopping, and the beach and boardwalk are a block or two from most of the streets. Housing is nearly all detached one-family houses on standard lots.

Breezy Point
Breezy Point occupies the western tip of the Rockaway peninsula, a private cooperative community of roughly 2,800 homes with its own beaches on both the ocean and Jamaica Bay. Fort Tilden and the Jacob Riis Park boardwalk sit just to the east, and the area is reached by car or the Q22 along Rockaway Point Boulevard.

Broad Channel
Broad Channel sits on an island in the middle of Jamaica Bay, the only inhabited island in the bay and surrounded by the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Cross Bay Boulevard runs through it and the A stops at Broad Channel. The housing is largely one-family houses, many built over the water on pilings with boat slips.

Far Rockaway
Far Rockaway sits at the eastern end of the peninsula against the Nassau line, and is the commercial center of the Rockaways. Mott Avenue carries the shopping, the A ends at Mott Avenue and the LIRR Far Rockaway Branch stops here as well. Housing ranges from mid-rise apartment and co-op buildings near the station to detached houses in Bayswater and along the ocean blocks.

Neponsit
Neponsit sits between Belle Harbor and Jacob Riis Park on the western half of the peninsula, laid out in 1909 as a planned oceanfront development. It remains one of the lowest-density neighborhoods in the city, almost entirely detached one-family houses, with the boardwalk and beach along its southern edge and Jamaica Bay to the north.
