Auburndale
Auburndale sits in northeastern Queens between Flushing and Bayside, laid out around the LIRR station of the same name on the Port Washington Branch. Northern Boulevard and 45th Avenue carry the local shopping, and the streets are largely detached and semi-detached houses on generous lots. The Q12 and Q13 buses connect it to downtown Flushing and the 7.

Bay Terrace
Bay Terrace runs along the Cross Island Parkway at the northern edge of Queens, looking out toward the Throgs Neck Bridge and Little Neck Bay. The Bay Terrace Shopping Center is the commercial hub, and Little Bay Park and the Joe Michaels Mile path run along the water. The housing is largely garden-apartment co-ops and attached houses.

Bayside sits in northeastern Queens along Little Neck Bay, with the LIRR stopping at Bayside and Auburndale on the Port Washington Branch. Bell Boulevard is the main commercial street, and Crocheron Park and Fort Totten sit on the waterfront. Douglaston sits at the northeastern corner of Queens on Little Neck Bay, and includes Douglas Manor, a landmarked historic district of early twentieth-century houses on a peninsula. The LIRR stops at Douglaston on the Port Washington Branch, and Alley Pond Park and Udalls Cove run along its edges. Housing is overwhelmingly detached one-family homes.

Downtown Flushing
Downtown Flushing is the commercial center of northeastern Queens, built around Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue where the 7 train ends and the LIRR stops. It is one of the busiest retail districts in the city, and Flushing Meadows-Corona Park sits just to the south. The housing is largely mid- and high-rise condo and co-op buildings, with new towers around the LIRR station.

East Flushing
East Flushing runs east of Main Street toward Utopia Parkway and Kissena Park, a quieter counterpart to the downtown core. Kissena Park holds a lake, a velodrome and one of the city's older tree collections. The housing is largely detached and semi-detached houses, with apartment buildings along Sanford and Franklin Avenues. The Q17, Q25 and Q27 connect it to the 7 at Main Street.

Floral Park
Floral Park sits at the Nassau line in eastern Queens, next to Bellerose and Glen Oaks. Jericho Turnpike and Jamaica Avenue carry the shopping, and the LIRR stops at Floral Park just across the border. The housing is nearly all detached and semi-detached one-family houses on quiet residential streets.

Flushing covers a large stretch of northeastern Queens around Main Street, where the 7 train terminates and the LIRR Port Washington Branch stops. Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Kissena Park and Queens Botanical Garden all sit within or beside it, and the Bowne House dates to 1661. Housing ranges from high-rise condos near the station to detached houses on the eastern side.

Fresh Meadows
Fresh Meadows sits in central-northeastern Queens around the Long Island Expressway and Utopia Parkway. The Fresh Meadows housing development, built in 1949, is one of the best-known planned garden apartment complexes in the country. Cunningham Park and St. John's University sit at its edges, and the shopping is concentrated on Union Turnpike and 188th Street.

Glen Oaks
Glen Oaks sits at the northeastern corner of Queens against the Nassau line, built largely around Glen Oaks Village, a garden apartment co-op community of low brick buildings completed in the late 1940s. Union Turnpike carries the shopping, and Alley Pond Park and the Queens County Farm Museum are close by.

Hollis Hills
Hollis Hills sits on high ground in eastern Queens between Cunningham Park and Alley Pond Park, one of the hillier parts of the borough. The streets curve with the terrain and the housing is almost entirely detached one-family houses on large lots. Union Turnpike and Springfield Boulevard carry the shopping and bus service.

Jamaica Estates
Jamaica Estates was laid out in 1907 as a planned development of winding streets and large detached houses, and much of that street plan survives. Hillside Avenue and Union Turnpike border it, the F stops at 169th Street and 179th Street, and St. John's University sits at its western edge. The housing is predominantly large one-family homes on wide lots.

Jamaica Hills sits between Hillside Avenue and Union Turnpike on rising ground east of downtown Jamaica. Captain Tilly Park and its pond sit at the center, and the F stops at 169th Street. The housing is a mix of detached houses, small apartment buildings and co-ops.

Kew Gardens
Kew Gardens was developed around a golf course in the 1910s and 1920s and still keeps its Tudor and mock-Tudor apartment buildings and houses. Lefferts Boulevard and Metropolitan Avenue carry the shopping, and the E, F and LIRR all stop at Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike or the Kew Gardens LIRR station. Forest Park runs along its western side.
