Brookville sits at the southeastern edge of Queens near the Nassau line, bordered by Brookville Park and its ponds. Springfield Boulevard and Farmers Boulevard carry the local shopping and bus service, and the Q5 and Q85 connect to the LIRR at Rosedale and Laurelton. The housing is almost entirely detached one-family houses.

Cambria Heights
Cambria Heights sits at the Nassau line in southeastern Queens, laid out in the 1920s and built out largely with one-family houses on uniform lots. Linden Boulevard is the main commercial street, and the LIRR stops nearby at Locust Manor and St. Albans. The Q4, Q83 and Q85 buses run through the neighborhood.

Hamilton Beach
Hamilton Beach is a small waterfront enclave on the edge of Jamaica Bay, built on canals and reached from Cross Bay Boulevard. The Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Charles Memorial Park are close by, and the A stops at Howard Beach-JFK Airport. Housing is largely small one-family houses, many of them raised against tidal flooding.

Hollis
Hollis sits in southeastern Queens between Jamaica and Queens Village, developed around the LIRR station that still stops here on the Hempstead Branch. Hillside Avenue and Jamaica Avenue carry the shopping, and the housing is largely detached and semi-detached one-family houses on tree-lined streets.

Howard Beach
Howard Beach sits on Jamaica Bay in southwestern Queens, bordered by the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Spring Creek Park. Cross Bay Boulevard is the commercial spine, and the A and the AirTrain meet at Howard Beach-JFK Airport. The housing runs from one-family houses to attached homes and small condo buildings near the water.

Jamaica
Jamaica is the commercial and transit center of southern Queens. Jamaica Center brings together the E, J and Z, the LIRR at Jamaica Station and the AirTrain to JFK, making it one of the largest transit hubs in the region. Jamaica Avenue carries the shopping, and King Manor Museum and the Rufus King Park sit at its center. Housing ranges from high-rise buildings downtown to rowhouses and detached homes.

Laurelton sits at the southeastern corner of Queens near the Nassau line, with its own LIRR stop on the Far Rockaway Branch. Merrick Boulevard carries the shopping, and the neighborhood was laid out in the 1900s with wide streets and a large stock of detached one-family houses, many of them Tudor and colonial revival.

Lindenwood
Lindenwood sits between Howard Beach and Ozone Park in southwestern Queens, built out in the 1950s and 1960s largely as garden apartment co-ops and attached houses. Linden Boulevard and Cross Bay Boulevard carry the shopping, and Spring Creek Park runs along its southern edge.

Old Howard Beach
Old Howard Beach is the original part of Howard Beach, sitting on the water between Hawtree Basin and Jamaica Bay. The streets are narrow and the housing is largely one- and two-family houses, many with boat access to the bay. Cross Bay Boulevard and the A at Howard Beach-JFK Airport are a short distance north.

Ozone Park
Ozone Park runs between Atlantic Avenue and the Belt Parkway in southwestern Queens. Liberty Avenue and Rockaway Boulevard carry the shopping, the A and the J and Z serve the neighborhood, and Resorts World sits at the old Aqueduct Racetrack on its western side. The housing is largely one- and two-family attached and semi-attached houses.

Queens Village sits in eastern Queens near the Nassau line, with its own LIRR stop on the Hempstead Branch. Jamaica Avenue, Springfield Boulevard and Hillside Avenue carry the shopping, and Alley Pond Park is to the north. Ramblersville is a small enclave beside Hamilton Beach on the edge of Jamaica Bay, one of the oldest waterfront settlements in Queens and among the smallest neighborhoods in the city. It sits on and around the canals off Hawtree Creek, and the housing is a handful of one-family houses, many raised on pilings.

Richmond Hill
Richmond Hill sits in southern Queens between Forest Park and Atlantic Avenue, laid out in the 1860s and 1870s as one of the borough's first planned suburbs. Jamaica Avenue and Liberty Avenue carry the shopping, the J and Z run along Jamaica Avenue, and the neighborhood keeps a large stock of Victorian frame houses alongside later rowhouses.
